Pallet cover

Our plastic pallet lids or palletcovers are designed to completely cover the load of a pallet. Of course, the size of the lid must match the pallet dimensions. Transoplast supplies pallet lids for pallets 1200×1000 mm, 1200×800 mm, and 800×600 mm – the most common pallet sizes. In addition to size, the type of pallet load is also an important factor for selecting the right product. Pallet loads with stacking containers require a slightly different lid than a pallet with a rim. When the lid can come into direct contact with food, it must also be food-safe. It is also important to know whether another pallet will be stacked on top of the lid. The lid must be designed for this. All these aspects are explained below.

Transoplast pallet lids

Transoplast supplies pallet lids, also called palletcovers, for the standard pallet sizes: 1200×1000 mm – 1200×800 mm and 800×600 mm.

Pallet lids matching a pallet load

The most common application of a pallet lid is covering a complete pallet load of Euronorm stacking containers. The rounding of the corners of these lids corresponds with the rounding of the container corners. Euronorm containers are then tightly gripped by these pallet lids, creating a stable unit load. Another application is covering a pallet complete with a rim. Such rims are placed at the extreme edge of the pallet and are rather angular. This is ideal for optimal volume utilization but requires a different type of pallet lid. These pallet lids stack differently on the load, and the corner rounding is slightly ‘sharper’. Transoplast also supplies pallet lids for this application.

Pallet lids and food

Pallet lids usually serve as outer packaging. Therefore, they do not need to be food-proof. Pallet lids are mainly made from recycled plastic, but from high-quality and homogeneous recyclate to ensure good impact resistance. When pallet lids can come into direct contact with food, they must be food-safe (with the recognized symbol). For this, virgin/new plastic is used – usually virgin HDPE. Transoplast therefore also supplies the standard pallet sizes 1200×1000 mm and 1200×800 mm in a food-safe quality.

Stacking on a pallet lid

Sometimes a complete pallet load with lid is intended to have another pallet (with load) stacked on top. This is called ‘stacking through’. To safely stack, the pallet lid must be designed for it. The stacked pallet must be safely centered so it cannot slide off the lid. For this, raised edges are included on the lid – usually on the short sides. Some pallet lids have a raised stacking corner on all four corners. Transoplast also supplies various lid variants for this application. Safety in logistics must always come first.

Pallet lids and safety

Preventing transport damage is the main function of a pallet lid. By covering a complete pallet load, the goods are better protected against damage and contamination. This is even more important when another loaded pallet is stacked on top. Such stacking can cause significant damage and must always be done safely. A suitable pallet lid is an effective solution.

Another important function of a pallet lid is improving fire safety in warehouses. Many logistics centers are equipped with sprinkler systems. If a fire is fought this way, it is disastrous when the available water flows into the stored containers, delaying and even preventing fire-fighting. Pallet lids prevent this and are therefore often required in storage facilities with sprinklers.
