Description

Lithium batteries can ignite during transport when they are improperly packaged.

Damage or recharging after deep discharge can cause short circuits or fire. Lithium batteries are therefore classified as hazardous goods. The battery box is certified for hazardous materials, Class X (including Classes Y and Z). Lithium batteries are found in mobile phones, tablets, tools, electric bicycles, and also in toys. Li-batteries can be safely stored and transported in our UN-certified reusable distribution containers.

The battery box is filled with approximately 10 kilograms of silicon dioxide granulate. The batteries are placed between the bags of granulate. In case of fire or elevated temperature, the granulate melts and forms a layer over the fire source or the heated battery. This prevents oxygen from reaching the fire. As a result, reignition is not possible. During this process, heat is absorbed and the fire is cooled. Any liquids released are absorbed by the melted mass. No extinguishing damage remains.

The battery container has two hinged lid halves that close together in the center of the box. Once closed, the lid is additionally secured with the strap attached to the battery box. The UN-certified distribution containers are nestable when empty (without granulate) and stackable with the lid closed.

Instructions for use:

  1. Prevent short circuits by taping off the battery terminals.

  2. Place the batteries about 6 to 7 centimeters apart and at the same distance from the side wall in the battery box with granulate.

  3. Fill the free spaces between the batteries and the side walls with the bags of granulate.

  4. Also place granulate bags on top of the batteries, so they are covered on all sides and cannot shift.

  5. Close the lid of the battery box and secure it with the strap.

  6. Place the UN number clearly visible on the outside of the battery box. Ensure the card with the UN number is weather-resistant.

Note: If the battery box has an unusually high temperature or a corrosive smell, remove the contents only with proper protective equipment. Damaged battery boxes may not be used for storage and transport of hazardous materials. Granulate that is not contaminated can be reused. Contaminated granulate must be disposed of as waste according to the applicable regulations.
